GoPenguin updates, improvements and fixes for PC, mobile and Nintendo 3DS. The latest releases come first. About GoPenguin.

1.3.9Latest release

Background updates and igloo entry on Nintendo 3DS

PCMobile3DS

  • ImprovedNintendo 3DS: prepare update downloads and verification while playing. Pause preparation or return to the island, then choose Install now when ready.
  • FixedNintendo 3DS: igloo entry prioritizes its required resources, reuses a matching loaded scenario and no longer restarts the wait after repeated taps. Missing replies are retried and timed-out requests can be opened again.
  • FixedNintendo 3DS: return from a mission or minigame before entering the igloo.
  • ImprovedNintendo 3DS: game resources are stored separately on SD so future application updates can reuse unchanged files. The first migration copies and verifies about 276 MB of existing resources.

Older 3DS clients receive the complete 1.3.8 update first. Install it, close GoPenguin when installation finishes and reopen it to receive 1.3.9. Allow SD space for the resource copy and temporary application files. Your saved penguin is retained. Existing graphics are retained; physical-console migration and battery life remain unverified.

1.3.7

G's Secret Mission and clearer Nintendo 3DS graphics

PCMobile3DS

  • NewPSA Mission 2, G's Secret Mission: solve G's riddle, test his prototype sled, survive in the wilderness and earn the mission rewards. Progress is saved by the server.
  • ImprovedChoose between the first two PSA missions from the mission menu.
  • FixedThe survival guide displays all eight original pages across four illustrated spreads. On Nintendo 3DS, the touch screen shows the complete text in readable parts.
  • ImprovedNintendo 3DS: larger, paged mission dialogue and responses. The secret-word form uses the original labels and supports the system keyboard.
  • ImprovedNintendo 3DS: sharper art in Town, Coffee Shop, Book Room, Pizza Parlor, Dance Lounge, Gift Shop, Ski Village, Ski Lodge and Lodge Attic, plus Cart Surfer and Pizzatron.
  • ImprovedNintendo 3DS: less repeated graphics preparation in Cart Surfer, Hydro Hopper, Puffle Round-Up, Thin Ice and Sled Racing.

The optional 3DS update is available from Help > Account > Updates. PC players can reload to play. Mission 2 is a playable adaptation; original mission audio and some cutscene details remain unfinished. Missions 3–11 are not included.

1.3.6

Halloween ends, Cave Mine lights and puffle fixes

PCMobile3DS

  • ImprovedHalloween is over: Town, the Coffee Shop, the Dance Club, the Gift Shop, the map, the interface and the music are back to normal.
  • ImprovedPenguin Style now shows the November catalogue.
  • FixedSnowballs thrown into the Cave Mine funnel power the light machine again.
  • FixedWalking puffles now arrive beside their owner in a new room instead of crossing it, and return home in your igloo.
  • FixedNintendo 3DS: puffles no longer stay invisible while other art downloads, keep their pose while the next one loads and move smoothly.
  • ImprovedNintendo 3DS: the newspaper has been withdrawn.
membership-window-fix

Membership window visible again on PC

PCMobile

  • FixedThe M button now opens the membership window over the game instead of placing it outside the visible screen. The window fits the viewport and its Close button can be reached with the keyboard.
1.3.5

Outfit dances, mining and Nintendo 3DS fixes

PCMobile3DS

  • NewSpecial outfits now play their matching actions on PC and Nintendo 3DS, including the pizza outfit and mining gear. Outfits whose original artwork is unavailable use the normal action.
  • NewDig in the Cave Mine with compatible mining gear to earn 10 coins per normal reward, with a rare 100-coin reward. After five rewards, move to another spot to keep digging.
  • ImprovedOn PC, recently visited rooms stay ready for return visits and nearby exits load ahead during idle time. Fast transitions avoid flashing a loading screen.
  • FixedOn Nintendo 3DS, Pizzatron registers quick topping taps and sauce contact more reliably, with less repeated graphics preparation.
  • FixedSmall catalogue Buy buttons are easier to tap on Nintendo 3DS. Catalogue cameras ignore Circle Pad drift and stay in place during taps, dragging and zooming.
  • FixedNintendo 3DS restores a saved penguin from a valid SD backup when the main identity file is damaged. If no saved identity can be recovered, it asks you to restore it instead of silently creating another penguin.
  • FixedNintendo 3DS 1.3.5 includes the corrected memory allocator from libctru 2.7.1.
  • ImprovedSmaller CIA and 3DSX updates are available from 1.3.4, with complete packages as fallback.

The 3DS update is optional. Install it from Help > Account > Updates. Keep a backup of your SD card and account recovery code.

1.3.4

Nintendo 3DS performance, keyboard and Halloween fixes

3DS

  • FixedBottom-screen icons are visible again, and animated clothing previews no longer hide controls. Halloween rooms, map, poster and music have been restored on Nintendo 3DS.
  • ImprovedClothing file loading runs in the background, rendering repeats less graphics work, and texture memory adapts to the available space.
  • NewHelp > Graphics > Hide other penguins reduces avatar rendering and clothing memory use. It is off by default; chat, emotes, history and the People list remain available.
  • ImprovedThe chat keyboard registers letters when you touch a key and avoids recalculating unchanged text. Send and Close still require releasing on the button.
  • ImprovedSmaller incremental downloads are available from 1.3.3, 1.3.0, 1.2.5 and 1.2.3 for CIA and 3DSX. Your saved penguin is retained.

Update from Help > Account > Updates. Crowded rooms and very varied outfits can still reach the hardware limits. Versions 1.3.1 and 1.3.2 need a fresh CIA or 3DSX from Resources because they cannot reach the updater.

1.3.3

Nintendo 3DS startup fix

3DS

  • FixedGoPenguin no longer stops at startup with "Could not load demo assets". The problem affected versions 1.3.1 and 1.3.2.
  • FixedAgent Mission 1, the mission interface and the snowball artwork are back on Nintendo 3DS.
  • NewTurn your seated penguin with the C-Stick, or hold B and use the Circle Pad, D-Pad or map.

If you have 1.3.1 or 1.3.2, the game cannot update itself: install the latest CIA or 3DSX again from gopenguin.lol/resources. Other versions can update from Help > Account > Updates. Keep your saved SD data.

player-cards

Player cards closer to the original

PCMobile

  • ImprovedMember badges use the five original tiers, one every six months. Your own free card shows the original star.
  • ImprovedPhotos and pins return to their original places, and hand items are drawn on top of your outfit.
  • ImprovedPlayer cards keep the original size in the browser, with the full tab visible above the HUD.
  • FixedBuddy, ignore and mail buttons now match each player's status. Gold and red cards display correctly again.
  • FixedCard-Jitsu no longer asks you to see the Sensei when you already have a deck, and its game data loads correctly.

Browser players should reload. Member tiers count from the date you joined GoPenguin.

1.3.0

Agent Mission 1 and the original mission interface

PCMobile3DS

  • NewCase of the Missing Puffles is playable with the original map, tools, agent code key and rewards.
  • NewMission 1 uses the original Aunt Arctic dialogue, telescope, life-preserver rescue and puffle photographs on PC and Nintendo 3DS.
  • ImprovedThe mission screen uses the original map, inventory and code chart, with classic touch controls for Hydro-Hopper and Cart Surfer.
  • ImprovedThe Nintendo 3DS package keeps the Halloween poster and offers smaller incremental updates from 1.2.2 through 1.2.5.
  • FixedThe browser explains when a penguin is online on another device instead of showing the raw error code.
  • FixedNintendo 3DS igloo styles now load their original artwork banks from the resource server.

Browser players should reload. On 3DS, install 1.3.0 or the smaller patch for your current version, then close and reopen GoPenguin; keep your saved SD data. Mission 1 is not available in the browser at the moment; play it on Nintendo 3DS. Halloween remains available on both platforms; use ?theme=classic on the browser for the classic look. Physical-console installation has not been tested.

1.2.5

Snowballs in Town

PCMobile3DS

  • NewSnowballs in Town use the original ball, shadow and impact.

Browser players should reload. Nintendo 3DS players can update from Help > Account > Updates.

Names and memberships stay saved

PCMobile3DS

  • FixedChanging only the capital letters in your name now works, and a new name stays saved after you log back in.
  • FixedChanging your name no longer risks losing your membership.
  • FixedNames such as "undefined" and "null" can no longer be chosen for new penguins.

If your penguin still shows an old name, you can change it again from your account.

1.2.4

Optional player card appearance update

PCMobile3DS

  • ImprovedStaff profiles use the original Waddle moderator shield. Selected player cards and shields can use separate blue, gold or red palettes.
  • ImprovedUpdated clients can load card palette changes from the server without another application update. Account roles and permissions are unchanged.

The browser change takes effect on a normal visit or reload; existing sessions are not prompted to reload. Nintendo 3DS 1.2.4 is an optional manual download. The automatic updater remains on 1.2.3 to avoid interrupting existing clients. Keep saved SD data. Native checks used Azahar; physical-console installation has not been tested.

1.2.3

Halloween on the island

PCMobile3DS

  • NewHalloween decorations in Town, Coffee Shop, Dance Club and Gift Shop, with the original party map and music.
  • NewThe Town poster opens on both screens of Nintendo 3DS. Press A or tap Go to Forest to visit; B or Close returns to the room. The Forest is open to everyone.
  • ImprovedThe browser HUD uses Halloween colours. Tweebbo and Discord are inside Settings > Community; chat history and the Halloween poster are also in Settings, leaving the room free of floating shortcuts.

Browser players should reload. On 3DS, install 1.2.3, then close and reopen GoPenguin; keep your saved SD data. Native changes were checked in Azahar; physical-console installation has not been tested.

1.2.2

Optional 3DS update for smaller future downloads

3DS

  • NewNintendo 3DS 1.2.2 adds support for smaller future updates by reusing unchanged installed game files. Versions through 1.2.1 first need this complete bridge update.
  • ImprovedThe updater compares small and full download sizes and shows preparation progress. If installed resources cannot be reused, you can explicitly choose the full download.

This update is optional. Keep playing on your current version and update whenever convenient. Download and install 1.2.2, then close and reopen GoPenguin. Keep your saved SD data. Installation still needs space for the complete package on SD.

1.2.1

Card-Jitsu practice and Old 3DS improvements

PCMobile3DS

  • NewBrowser Card-Jitsu has a Practice with a ninja option. Play a complete match against an NPC without changing your coins, belts or stamps.
  • FixedCard-Jitsu power animations in the browser play their separate layers correctly, including the construction helmet and jackhammer. Original artwork and animation timing are preserved.
  • FixedThe Card-Jitsu matchmaking cancel button follows the visible X. Cancelling while entering the queue no longer starts a match afterward.
  • ImprovedOld 3DS draws player names with a small cache and handles player lookups and drawing order more efficiently in crowded rooms. Names, clothing, players and animation rates are preserved.

Browser players should reload. On 3DS, install 1.2.1 and then close and reopen GoPenguin; keep your saved SD data. Practice does not award progression. Crowded-room improvements were tested in an Old 3DS emulator; physical-console FPS improvements have not been measured.

1.2.0

More music, puffle care and Card-Jitsu on PC

PCMobile3DS

  • NewClassic Card-Jitsu is playable in the browser Dojo, with Sensei, player matchmaking, the original tutorial, cards and belt rewards. Both players' won elements and colours remain visible while choosing a card.
  • NewPC keyboard shortcuts: W waves, D dances, S sits facing the pointer and T aims a snowball. Press E followed by an emote key to show an emote. Quick replies are available with H, B, Y, N and O.
  • NewPC chat history shows names, times and rooms for the last 1,000 messages of your current session. The Tweebbo face in the room toolbar asks before opening Tweebbo in a new tab.
  • NewTown and more rooms now have their original music. Existing room themes are kept, and 3DS music is compressed for storage.
  • FixedPuffle play, sleep, food, cookie, gum and bath use their complete original animations for all nine colours. The PC adoption window shows the selected puffle and the full Continue button.
  • FixedThe PC mailbox can display puffle adoption and Card-Jitsu belt postcards. If an individual postcard fails to load, the mailbox stays open so you can retry, navigate or delete it.
  • FixedHistorical clothing catalogues on 3DS have their missing page resources completed, so changing to another month or page no longer depends on which pages were previously prepared.
  • Improved3DS handles bursts of player movement and looks up loaded clothing more efficiently in crowded rooms.
  • FixedThe 3DS dance floor keeps a steady illuminated pattern instead of rapid colour changes.
  • ImprovedThe 3DS updater shows the download speed alongside its existing download, verification and installation progress.

Browser players should reload. On 3DS, install the update and then close and reopen GoPenguin; keep your saved SD data. Card-Jitsu Fire remains available on 3DS. PC chat history lasts for the current browser session.

1.1.5

See every step of your update

3DS

  • Improved3DS updates show separate download, verification, installation and finishing steps. Verification and installation have their own progress counters.
  • FixedThe updater confirms the installed version before reporting success and keeps the completion message visible until you close GoPenguin.
  • ImprovedSTART keeps the app open while an update is active. If installation fails, the message identifies the failed step and lets you retry with the verified download.

An update started from an older version still uses its previous screen until you reopen GoPenguin. A full download counter alone does not confirm installation; wait for the installed message.

1.1.4

Transfer your penguin from PC

3DS

  • FixedImporting from PC no longer fails when the SD card already contains a backup of your previous penguin. Repeated transfers keep using the saved backup.
  • FixedIf a transfer cannot be saved, your previous penguin stays selected. Its access is retained until the imported penguin has been saved successfully.
1.1.3

Your penguin, fewer steps

PCMobile3DS

  • Improved3DS connects with your saved penguin automatically. Help > Account brings together Transfer penguin, Change name and Updates.
  • ImprovedOn 3DS, From PC imports your penguin from the website. To PC gives you a temporary code and QR to continue with the same penguin on PC or phone.
  • New3DS chat history: press L in a room to read the last 100 messages of this session, or R to write. In history, L/R change pages, Up/Down scroll, A writes and B returns.
  • ImprovedIn the 3DS keyboard, L changes case and R switches between letters and symbols. Game, catalogue and igloo controls keep their existing shortcuts.
  • Fixed3DS avoids unnecessary SD saves that could interrupt penguin selection, name changes and online actions. Changing your name keeps you connected.
  • ImprovedThe browser has a Discord link on desktop and reduces the theatre's drawing resolution at large window sizes to ease rendering work.
1.1.2

Keep the penguin you selected

PCMobile3DS

  • FixedIf a saved session cannot be verified, GoPenguin keeps your selected penguin instead of silently creating another character.
  • FixedBrowser tabs keep their own selected penguin. A delayed reply cannot replace the penguin chosen in another tab.
  • ImprovedCreating or switching a penguin checks that it can be saved first. If a 3DS SD save fails, your previous penguin stays selected and recovery instructions appear.
1.1.1

A gift from Captain Rockhopper

PCMobile3DS

  • FixedTalk to Captain Rockhopper in Town to receive his free background. It is saved even if you close the logbook without sending a message.
  • FixedVisiting Rockhopper again does not duplicate the gift or change your coins.
1.1.0

Card-Jitsu comes to Nintendo 3DS

PCMobile3DS

  • NewPlay Card-Jitsu and Card-Jitsu Fire on Nintendo 3DS. Meet Sensei in the Dojo or Fire Dojo, or open Help > Games. Challenge Sensei or other players and keep your belt progress.
  • Improved3DS cards have larger original illustrations, values, elements and power-card details. Left/Right inspects and A plays; holding a card previews it and dragging outside cancels.
  • FixedBean Counters keeps your chosen penguin colour in every carrying pose. Walking puffles follow smoothly and keep their direction when stopping.
  • ImprovedPC and mobile games use adapted full-screen layouts, larger menu artwork and improved touch controls.

Card-Jitsu and Card-Jitsu Fire are playable on 3DS. Their browser minigame clients are still unavailable. Some cinematics and game audio remain in progress.

1.0.3

Take your penguin with you

PCMobile3DS

  • NewContinue with the same penguin on 3DS, PC or phone using an eight-character device code or QR. Codes work once and expire after ten minutes; your coins and belongings stay with your penguin.
  • NewAn optional Battery saver setting on New Nintendo 3DS uses the normal CPU clock and 30 FPS. Turn it off for the faster CPU and up to 60 FPS. Original 3DS keeps its normal clock and 30 FPS.
  • FixedCart Surfer no longer turns your penguin yellow when leaning left or right.
  • ImprovedLess idle network polling while chat and crossplay stay connected.
1.0.2

One island on web and Nintendo 3DS

PCMobile3DS

  • NewGoPenguin is available on PC, mobile and Nintendo 3DS. Meet other players, chat, change outfits, decorate your igloo and play games on the same island.
  • NewTravel between GoPenguin and Tweebbo from their account menus. Each game keeps its own character, belongings and currency.
  • Improved3DS connects with your saved penguin and offers a touch keyboard while the world keeps moving. Dances, snowballs and clothes synchronize with browser players.
  • FixedThe membership QR stays visible while payment status updates.
  • ImprovedDownload 3DS updates inside the game, with resumable downloads checked before installation. Rename your penguin without losing items or coins.
